Bugfest
TM
It is common knowledge that Bugfest makes little profit, therefore, we are now  a community interest company with co-operative rules - that is, a company that is run solely for the benefit of the community and not for an individual; it is a form of social enterprise.

In this structure, customers and employees are entitled to be part of the committee and have a vote on how the company is run and where its profits are best placed. With this not-for-profit status we will be able to apply for funding to support us in our mission to inform and educate people from all walks of life and age about the importance of conservation, bio-diversity and sustainability. We will be able to do more work with schools and voluntary youth organisations and reach out to generate links with communities in socially deprived areas in and around  Yeovil and The South Somerset area.

We are currently looking at potential venues from which to run the organisation, and have identified some potential options.

How can you get involved?

You can join the committee, or you can volunteer a few hours a week in the premises when it is finalised, you might have specialist skills, experience and knowledge that you would like to volunteer for us. Whatever you can offer, you can be sure that it will be used solely for the benefit of the wider community.

The Bugfest Mission Statement.
Bugfest seeks to promote the idea of the role invertebrates play in the maintenance and sustainability of our planet and environment, by educating children and adults about their own roles and responsibilities towards conservation and the preservation of bio-diversity and sustainability through the medium of school visits, entertaining and interactive talks and a zoo centre. Bugfest will forge community links between schools in the Yeovil and Somerset community, and deprived community areas through its collection of animals from all over the world. Bugfest will embed sustainability and environmental awareness into all aspects of its work, and aims to contribute to conservation of wild populations by the captive breeding of its own livestock and to collaborate with other zoological organisations where possible, in rare and endangered invertebrate conservation projects.
